ALGIERS, Dec. 11 (AGCNewsNet) – Algeria has unveiled plans to construct a vast railway network spanning 2,400 kilometers, connecting its northern and southern regions more effectively. The ambitious project, reported by *Railway Supply*, is part of the country’s broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at fostering economic growth and enhancing inter-regional connectivity.

The National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment has already completed technical studies for 1,084 kilometers of the proposed tracks, with progress ongoing for the remaining sections. The project will include two major railway lines: one linking the capital city, Algiers, on the Mediterranean coast with Tamanrasset near Niger’s border, and another spanning 2,406 kilometers across 10 provinces to boost trade, transportation, and development.

"We aim to modernize and expand Algeria’s railway system to meet national needs," stated Abdul Qadir Mazar, the agency’s information chief.

The trans-desert railway highlights Algeria’s focus on sustainable growth by improving logistics, accessibility, and economic integration between urban centers and remote regions. This major development is expected to strengthen Algeria’s position as a logistical hub in North Africa while improving mobility and trade opportunities across the country.
