LIBREVILLE, Oct. 4 (AGCNewsNet) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially handed over the site for the construction of the Cavalla River Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project linking Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, as part of its strategic effort to boost transport connectivity and regional integration across West Africa.
The bridge, which aligns with the ECOWAS Vision 2050, aims to improve the movement of goods and people between the two West African countries and beyond. The project also forms a crucial part of the Praia-Dakar-Abidjan Corridor, an essential section of the Trans-Africa Highway network. Speaking on the significance of the project, ECOWAS President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, stressed its role in fulfilling the organization's "4 x 4 strategy," which focuses on regional integration, peace, economic stability, and strengthening ties among member states.
Supported by the African Development Bank, the Cavalla River Bridge project underscores the collaboration between ECOWAS, Cote d'Ivoire, and Liberia to enhance transportation infrastructure in the region. By connecting these two countries, ECOWAS hopes to reduce transportation costs and travel times, paving the way for increased cross-border trade and cooperation.
"This project symbolises a step towards our vision of a connected and prosperous West Africa," Dr. Touray noted. "It is an integral part of our ongoing commitment to regional integration and sustainable development for the citizens of ECOWAS."
The Cavalla River Bridge project is expected to provide numerous economic benefits to local communities, furthering ECOWAS's goal of a united, integrated, and prosperous West African community.
