ABUJA, Jan 8 (AGCNewsNet) – The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has been named Africa’s best cybercrime unit for 2024 by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore, recognizing its exemplary efforts in combating cybercrime.
In a landmark year, the NPF-NCCC reported the recovery of N8,821,001,881.80 (Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty-One Million, One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Eighty Kobo), 115,237.91 USDT in cryptocurrency, and $84,000 in cash, all restituted to victims of cybercrimes.
The unit also arrested and prosecuted over 751 individuals involved in cyber-related offenses and confiscated 685 devices used in criminal operations, including mobile phones, laptops, routers, servers, and even a drone. Authorities seized 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles, effectively dismantling the infrastructure behind these illicit activities.
Among the recent arrests were four suspects—Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody—apprehended for various cybercrimes.
Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, speaking on the unit’s achievements, reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to safeguarding the nation’s cyberspace and encouraged citizens to practice caution and cyber awareness in their online activities.
The NPF-NCCC’s recognition as the continent’s leading cybercrime unit underscores Nigeria's strides in cybersecurity and its commitment to tackling emerging digital threats effectively.
