NAIROBI, Jan 8 (AGCNewsNet) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The winner will now receive $3.5 million, a 75% increase compared to previous tournaments.
CAF also revealed that the total prize pool for CHAN 2024 has been raised by 32% to $10.4 million, underscoring its commitment to fostering the development of African football and attracting global attention to its competitions.
"We are excited about the upcoming CHAN 2024 and have significantly increased the prize money of the winner to $3.5 million," said CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. "This competition is part of our strategy to invest in African football, enhance its global competitiveness, and make it appealing to fans, sponsors, and stakeholders worldwide."
The tournament will kick off on February 1, 2025, and conclude with the final on February 28, 2025. Seventeen nations have already secured their spots: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.
Two additional teams will qualify after the remaining matches.
The CHAN competition, reserved exclusively for players active in their domestic leagues, serves as a vital platform for showcasing homegrown talent and promoting the development of football across the continent.
