JUBA, Jan 13 (AGCNewsNet) – MTN South Sudan has launched the country’s first-ever eSIM (embedded SIM) technology, marking a major milestone in the nation’s telecommunications sector. The innovation was unveiled on Friday during a meeting between Napoleon Adok Gai, Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), and Monzer Ali, CEO of MTN South Sudan, in Juba.
“This is not just about innovation; it’s about simplifying connectivity and delivering convenience to our customers,” Ali said. He described the eSIM as a technological breakthrough that eliminates the need for traditional physical SIM cards and allows users to connect to their mobile service provider seamlessly.
The eSIM technology, which can be remotely programmed through software, integrates directly into devices such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and even automobiles. This advancement offers unparalleled convenience, allowing users to connect to multiple carriers, add new numbers, and switch providers with ease.
“This marks another milestone in South Sudan’s telecommunications journey. As MTN, we are proud to be the first operator in the country to launch eSIM technology,” Ali added.
Director General Gai expressed gratitude to MTN for introducing the technology, emphasizing the potential benefits for users and the enhancement of consumer security. He called on MTN to prioritize customer education and service to ensure widespread adoption and usability of the new technology.
“Inclusion is critical,” Gai noted, underscoring the NCA’s willingness to work with MTN and other providers to improve accessibility to eSIM-enabled devices.
The launch of eSIMs is expected to revolutionize mobile connectivity in South Sudan, offering users greater control over their mobile experience. With the ability to manage cell plans remotely, the technology represents a significant leap forward in convenience and efficiency for consumers.
