UK Minister for Africa Visits Botswana's Jwaneng Diamond Mine

Jwaneng, Jan 21 (AGCNewsNet) – Collins of Highbury, Baron Raymond Edward Harry, the UK Minister for Africa, visited the Jwaneng diamond mine in Botswana, operated by Debswana, emphasizing the strong partnership between the UK and Botswana.

During the visit, Debswana MD, Andrew Motsomi, detailed the company’s 55-year legacy of ethical and responsible diamond mining. He highlighted its significant contributions to Botswana’s economy, including advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, while discussing current challenges and opportunities.

“We are committed to responsible mining practices and socioeconomic development for the communities we serve, ensuring long-term benefits,” said Motsomi.

Baron Collins commended Debswana’s environmental, social, and governance initiatives, praising its sustainable practices and exploring potential partnerships in renewable energy. The visit underlined shared goals for fostering economic development, sustainability, and social progress, reinforcing UK-Botswana bilateral relations amidst global diamond market complexities.
