DUBLIN, Jan 28 (AGCNewsNet) – Irish police are investigating a suspected human trafficking case after nine men were discovered in a shipping container at Rosslare Europort in southeast Ireland early Monday morning.

The container, reportedly originating from Africa, had made two stops in Europe before arriving in Ireland. Authorities were alerted at approximately 10:30 am when the individuals were found. Medical assessments revealed eight men were in good health, while one was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Although local media speculate the men may be from Djibouti, police have refrained from confirming their nationality, stating that investigations are ongoing.

Rosslare Europort, located 90 minutes from Dublin and Cork, is among Ireland's fastest-growing cargo ports, with a significant rise in freight traffic. The port handles direct connections to Europe and the UK, serviced by operators like DFDS, Neptune Lines, Stena, Brittany Ferries, and Irish Ferries.

This incident adds to a series of human smuggling cases at Rosslare. In March 2024, seven Eritreans were found in a trailer at the port, and a year earlier, 14 migrants from Iran and Iraq, including women and children, were discovered in a trailer arriving from Belgium.

Irish authorities continue to investigate these incidents as part of broader efforts to combat human trafficking across the region.
