ABUJA, Mar 10 (AGCNewsNet) – The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, is set to launch a large-scale electric vehicle transportation system in North-East Nigeria, following the approval of contracts worth nearly $100 million (N151.9 billion) for vehicle procurement and charging infrastructure.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed on Sunday that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved the supply of ten 17-seater electric buses.
As part of the initiative, Bluecrest Integrated Concept Limited will deliver the buses within six months for N2.9 billion. Meanwhile, Messrs Mutual Commitment Company Limited will supply 4,000 e-tricycles for N49.6 billion within nine months, and Shanghai Integrated Infrastructure Development will provide 3,000 e-tricycles for N37.2 billion. Sinoma Investment International Limited will also supply an additional 3,000 e-tricycles, each with a nine-passenger capacity.
For N16.3 billion, Messrs HNCEGC will deliver 100 BYD Dolphin EVs, 100 BYD Qin Plus EVs, and 37 BYD Yuan Plus EVs. Additionally, Messrs KB Laman Motors Nigeria Limited will establish charging stations for N8.4 billion.
The North East Development Commission is funding the project as part of its efforts to cut carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency in the region.
President Tinubu had approved the procurement of the e-vehicles in October last year and inspected the samples, along with chargers and batteries.
