NAIROBI, March 14 (AGCNewsNet) – A 79-year-old British national, Edgar Charles Frederick, has died after being struck by a vehicle linked to Kenyan President William Ruto’s motorcade in Nairobi.
The incident occurred on Thursday along a major road in the capital. Police confirmed that the driver of a support vehicle in the convoy failed to stop but was later arrested and released on bail. An investigation is underway, and the driver is expected to appear in court.
Frederick, who was visiting family in Kenya, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Social media footage captured him lying on the road near a busy shopping area before being covered with a traditional Maasai shawl.
The UK High Commission in Kenya has acknowledged the incident and is seeking further details. Officials clarified that the vehicle involved belonged to the regional administration’s support team for the presidential detail, not President Ruto’s direct security unit.
President Ruto was in the vicinity at the time for public engagements.
