IJEBU-ODE, March 16 (AGCNewsNet) – Nigerian fashion designer, Oluwaseun Kuforiji, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records (GWR) for completing the longest sewing marathon, sewing for 106 hours and 55 minutes.
In a statement released by GWR, the organization confirmed that Kuforiji hand-sewed 22 items during the marathon, which took place from January 22 to 26 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
“The longest sewing marathon is 106 hr 55 min 20 sec, and was achieved by Oluwaseun Kuforiji (Nigeria) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, Nigeria, from 22 January to 26 January 2025,” the post read.
Kuforiji’s “sew-a-thon” was aimed at promoting craftsmanship and inspiring creativity in the fashion industry. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, he described the record as a testament to perseverance and skill.
“Officially a Guinness World Record Holder! 106 hours, 55 minutes, and 20 seconds of non-stop sewing—needle and thread in hand, passion in my heart,” he wrote. “This is more than just a record; it’s proof of believing in one’s craft.”
Before this, no official record existed for the longest sewing marathon. Previous Nigerian attempts included Edmond Peace’s abandoned 170-hour challenge in July 2023 and Ibikunle Olamide’s 100-hour attempt in December 2024.
For Kuforiji, the achievement marks not only a personal milestone but also a significant moment for Nigerian fashion, bringing global attention to the country’s skilled artisans.
