LUSAKA, April 1 (AGCNewsNet) – Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced an eight percent reduction in diesel prices, effective Wednesday, as part of efforts to align with competitive market trends.
The pump price of diesel has been reduced from K32.54 to K30.23 per litre (about US$1.07) for the month of April. However, petrol, kerosene, and jet A-1 fuel prices remain unchanged. Petrol will continue to retail at K34.98 per litre, kerosene at K29.56 per litre, and jet A-1 fuel at K32.51 per litre.
ERB board chairperson James Banda confirmed that the price adjustment follows the implementation of Zambia’s Open Access tender process, which took effect on April 1, 2025. This system allows multiple fuel suppliers to compete through monthly bidding, promoting transparency and market-driven pricing.
“For April, the most competitive bid under the Open Access framework was set at 84 United States dollars per metric tonne,” Banda stated.
The price reduction is expected to provide some relief to consumers and businesses, marking a step toward cost efficiency as Zambia continues refining its energy procurement policies.
