LIBREVILLE, Apr 16 (AGCNewsNet) – Gabonese forward Aaron Boupendza has tragically passed away at the age of 28 after falling from the 11th floor of a building in China, the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) confirmed on Wednesday.
Boupendza, who had recently joined Zhejiang FC earlier this year, was in excellent form with four goals in six matches. The talented striker had made a significant impact during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he was remembered as one of the standout players of the tournament.
"At 28, Boupendza is remembered as a great striker who left a lasting impression at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon," FEGAFOOT said in a statement.
Trained at CF Mounana and Bordeaux in France, Boupendza also had stints in Romania before making his way to China. The Gabonese football community, alongside his biological family, expressed deep sorrow over his untimely death.
Authorities in China have launched an investigation into the cause of the fall, with reports suggesting that they are considering the possibility of an accident, suicide, or foul play. As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Aaron Boupendza, a talented center-forward who brought honour to Gabonese football," said Gabon President Brice Oligui Nguema. "I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace."
Boupendza’s career spanned several countries, including France, Turkey, Qatar, the United States, and China. His sudden passing has left the football community in shock and mourning.
