LAGOS, Apr. 22 (AGCNewsNet) – Ethiopian Airlines said on Monday it will double its weekly flight services to Lagos, Nigeria, beginning in June 2025, reflecting growing demand for air connectivity between East and West Africa.
The airline, in a post on its official social media platform, said the increase from 7 to 14 flights per week aims to provide more flexible and convenient travel options for passengers commuting between the two commercial powerhouses on the continent.
“This move not only enhances connectivity within Africa but also supports our broader strategy of boosting intra-Africa trade,” the airline said.
The expansion underscores the rising appetite for regional travel, as African airlines seek to tap into the continent's growing middle class and business travel market.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines also announced the temporary suspension of its flight operations to Akanu Ibiam International Airport (ENU) in Enugu, southeast Nigeria.
The halt, effective immediately, is due to ongoing runway rehabilitation work being undertaken by airport authorities. Services to Enugu will remain suspended until May 6, 2025.
“This temporary measure is necessary to allow for the essential infrastructure work on the runway,” the airline said in a statement.
Ethiopian Airlines is one of Africa’s largest and most profitable carriers and has in recent years, expanded its network across the continent as part of its long-term growth strategy.
