LOKOJA, May 9 (AGCNewsNet) — A joint team of security forces, local hunters, and police have rescued 31 out of 38 passengers abducted by armed hoodlums along a highway in Kogi State, following a violent ambush on two commercial buses traveling from Lagos to Kano and Katsina.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed the incident via his X handle on Friday, stating that the rescue occurred after a swift response to a distress alert on May 8.
The attackers had intercepted two Toyota Hiace buses—one headed for Kano with 17 passengers and the other for Katsina with another 17. Security operatives reportedly engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon 31 of the captives and flee into the surrounding forest.
Makama confirmed that four rescued victims sustained machete wounds, while one was shot in the thigh. All injured passengers are currently receiving medical care.
Efforts to rescue the remaining seven victims are ongoing.
