LAGOS, May 14 (AGCNewsNet) - Six Nigerians have been deported from the United States after being charged with various crimes, as part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities to repatriate individuals involved in criminal activities.
The deportees arrived in Lagos on Wednesday aboard a Delta Airlines flight, touching down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport shortly before 9 a.m. They were received by officials from various Nigerian government agencies, who are expected to determine the next steps.
Sources familiar with the matter said the deportation is linked to a recent decision by the U.S. government to expel at least 3,000 Nigerians who have committed crimes. This move aligns with the U.S. administration’s policy to tighten migration and ensure public safety.
Under the leadership of former President Donald Trump, the U.S. pursued stricter immigration policies, resulting in an increase in deportations aimed at reducing the number of foreign nationals involved in crime.
The Nigerian authorities have not disclosed the specific offenses committed by the six deportees or what measures will be taken upon their return.
