WASHINGTON DC, May 21 (AGCNewsNet) – Nigerian music executive and politician Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has earned a Master’s degree in Policy Management from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, marking a major shift in his professional journey.
The singer-turned-public servant disclosed the academic milestone via Instagram, where he reflected on the challenges of balancing academics, fatherhood, and a fellowship on Capitol Hill.
“Parenting two children in the U.S., while earning a full-time Master’s and serving as a Fellow on Capitol Hill was completely exhausting,” he wrote, crediting faith, family, and resilience for his success. “But by the grace of God, the strength of faith, and the support of family, friends, and mentors, we did it!”
Banky W relocated his family to the U.S. last year to further his studies, stepping down as CEO of a media company to return to life as a full-time student. He cited faith, family, and a desire to find deeper purpose as motivations for the move.
“The past few years have been a stretching season for my family and me,” he added. “Sometimes it is necessary to step off the dance floor and onto the balcony… to reflect on how far you’ve come, who you are, and who you would like to become.”
Banky W also used the moment to announce the birth of his second child, Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington, who arrived during his time in graduate school.
He concluded by encouraging others to embrace change: “It’s never too late to dream a new dream, or redefine the ending of an existing one.”
Before pursuing his graduate studies, Banky W had a distinguished career in music. After his primary and secondary education in Lagos, he studied Industrial Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. In 2002, he co-founded Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E), which nurtured stars like Wizkid, Niyola, Shaydee, and Skales.
Banky W released his debut album Back in the Building in 2005 and became known for hit singles such as Ebute Metta, Capable, and Yes/No. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the Nigerian music industry.
In 2017, he married actress Adesua Etomi in South Africa. The couple welcomed their first child, Hazaiah, in 2021.
