CAPE TOWN, June 3 (AGCNewsNet) –The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has officially confirmed that the 2025 tax season will begin on 7 July, kicking off with the auto-assessment process.
Auto-assessments, which rely on third-party data submitted by employers, banks, and other institutions, will be issued first. Taxpayers who receive an auto-assessment notice are advised to review the details and respond accordingly via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp.
For those not auto-assessed, the tax filing window will open on 21 July. These individuals are expected to submit their returns manually by 20 October, the deadline for non-provisional taxpayers.
Provisional taxpayers and trusts have a longer filing period, starting from 21 July and closing on 19 January 2026.
SARS has urged all taxpayers to:
· Begin gathering their documents early
· Ensure all personal and financial information is up-to-date
· Submit their returns on time to avoid penalties and delays in refunds
The agency emphasized the importance of early preparation to prevent last-minute stress and to ensure a smooth filing process.
