MAIDUGURI, June 21 (AGCNewsNet) – At least 11 people have been confirmed dead following a bomb explosion Friday night in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.

According to local sources, the blast occurred in front of a local cinema adjacent to the Konduga fish market. The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) reported that several others sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Security personnel have since been deployed to the scene of the attack, as investigations continue. Konduga lies approximately 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Although no group has officially claimed responsibility for the bombing, authorities suspect the involvement of Boko Haram, which has recently resumed a wave of attacks across the state.

This is the first reported suicide bombing in Konduga in nearly a year. The attack also follows closely on the heels of military engagements in Gwoza and Kukawa local government areas, where insurgents were repelled by troops.

Military sources say recent operations in the region have led to the death of hundreds of insurgents, including several top commanders.

Borno State remains at the heart of Nigeria’s over a decade-long insurgency, with Konduga being one of several towns frequently targeted by Boko Haram fighters.
