NAIROBI, Sept 22 (AGCNewsNet) - Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have been confirmed as co-hosts for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place from February 1-28, 2025. The tournament, which features national teams composed of players from their domestic leagues, will mark a historic moment for East Africa, as it is the first time these three nations will jointly host the prestigious African football event.

The announcement was made earlier this week by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during his visit to Kenya. The tournament, initially scheduled for this year, was postponed to 2025 to allow more preparation time for the host nations.

“CHAN is an excellent opportunity for Africa-based players. It is a perfect place to groom tomorrow’s winners of the AFCON,” said Motsepe. “I have no doubt in my mind that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will host the best CHAN in the history of the competition because I have seen how willing and committed the governments are.”

With three countries sharing hosting responsibilities, the finals will be expanded to 19 teams, with qualifiers set to begin next month.

For Kenya, this is a significant milestone. The country had been awarded hosting rights in 2018 but lost them due to unpreparedness. President William Ruto has since guaranteed that key facilities, such as the Nyayo and Kasarani Stadia, will be ready for the tournament.

This marks a major comeback for the Kenyan FA, which narrowly avoided suspension from international football earlier this year following government interference. Now, back on the international stage, Kenya joins Uganda and Tanzania in hosting one of Africa’s biggest football events.
