ALGIERS, Aug 29 (AGCNewsNet) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has dismissed Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui and appointed Industry Minister Sifi Ghrieb as the country’s acting head of government, state media reported on Thursday.
Larbaoui, a seasoned diplomat, had assumed office in 2023 following his appointment by Tebboune. No official explanation was provided for his sudden removal.
The leadership reshuffle comes as Algeria, a major natural gas supplier to several European countries, continues to be viewed as one of North Africa’s more politically stable nations.
Analysts note that the change in leadership may not significantly alter Algeria’s foreign or domestic policy direction but could reflect President Tebboune’s efforts to tighten control ahead of key political and economic decisions.
The North African state has in recent years sought to bolster its global profile through energy partnerships, particularly with Europe, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
