CAIRO, Feb. 3 (AGCNewsNet) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt has begun procedures to repatriate the remains of a Vietnamese seafarer who died following a workplace accident at Alexandria Port, Egyptian authorities confirmed on Monday.
The victim, identified as T.V.H., born in 1975 and a native of the northern port city of Hải Phòng, was serving as an engine crew member aboard the cargo vessel PVT Coral. He was employed under contract with Phương Đông Việt Transport and Logistics Joint Stock Company (PVT Logistics) and had been assigned to the vessel by the shipowner since September 24 last year.
According to the embassy, the PVT Coral arrived at Alexandria Port on January 31 to unload cargo. At about 8:00 p.m. local time on February 1, T.V.H. was fatally injured while carrying out maintenance and technical repair work on the vessel.
The Vietnamese Embassy said it has been working closely with relevant Egyptian authorities to complete all legal and administrative formalities required under local regulations, with the aim of returning the deceased seafarer’s body to Việt Nam as soon as possible.
The vessel PVT Coral (IMO No. 9558696) remains docked at Alexandria Port as investigations into the incident continue, while Vietnamese authorities liaise with the shipowner and local officials to support the victim’s family.
