LAGOS, Nov. 10 (AGCNewsNet) – Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has reflected on her inspiring seven-year journey to the Miss Universe 2024 stage, as she prepares to represent Nigeria at the global pageant in Mexico.
The 21-year-old model arrived in Mexico last month ahead of the competition’s finale, scheduled for Nov. 16 at Arena CDMX. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Adetshina recounted her challenges, sharing a story of resilience, determination, and hope.
“2017, I had this dream of walking the Miss Universe stage with no idea of what it means to be a Queen. Seven years later… I will be walking the Miss Universe stage,” she wrote.
The young beauty queen described the emotional toll of the journey, citing “tears, pain, and trauma” but emphasized her perseverance despite moments of doubt.
“This journey hasn’t been easy for me mentally and emotionally… I refused to let anyone or anything dim my vision,” she added, dedicating her accomplishment to Nigeria and Africa.
Adetshina, born to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, also addressed critics who questioned her nationality. She had previously withdrawn from the Miss South Africa pageant but was invited by the Silverbird Group, organizers of Miss Universe Nigeria, to compete for her home country’s title—a crown she ultimately won.
Her message to aspiring dreamers was clear: “Your dreams are valid. Don’t let fear hold you back… YOU CAN.”
Despite her challenges, Adetshina expressed immense gratitude for the support she has received, stating, “This achievement is not just mine but it’s for Nigeria, it’s for Africa.”
The Miss Universe 2024 competition will feature contestants from over 80 countries, with Adetshina poised to showcase Nigeria’s beauty, culture, and resilience on the global stage.
Miss Universe Nigeria is an annual pageant organized by the Silverbird Group, aimed at selecting a representative to compete at the global Miss Universe stage. This year, Adetshina’s win marked a significant milestone, emphasizing inclusivity and the celebration of African identity amidst challenges.
