LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (AGCNewsNet) – Nigerian music artists have made a significant mark on the 67th Grammy Awards nominations, as seen in the recent unveiling by the Recording Academy. In a historic moment for African music, Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, Lojay, Yemi Alade, and Tems secured nominations in the Best African Music Performance category.

Burna Boy’s Higher and Asake’s collaboration with Wizkid, MMS, were recognized, while Davido and Lojay’s contributions to Chris Brown’s Sensational earned nods. Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow and Tems’ Love Me, Heje also secured nominations, underscoring the increasing global recognition of Nigerian music.

Tems, already a prominent figure on the global stage, made history as the only African artist with three global music category nominations. Her debut album, Born in the Wild, is in contention for Best Global Music Album, while her single Burning vies for Best R&B Song.

Other Nigerian nominees include Rema, who earned a Best Global Music Album nomination for Rave & Roses, and Jordan Adetunji, recognized in the Best Reggae Album category for his work on Bob Marley’s One Love soundtrack.

Burna Boy’s sixth consecutive nomination cements his legacy as Nigeria’s most nominated artist, with his 2021 win for Twice as Tall marking a pivotal moment for African representation at the Grammys.

Globally, Beyoncé leads this year’s nominations with 11 nods for her album Cowboy Carter, spanning categories such as Record, Song, and Album of the Year, as well as Pop, Rap, Country, and Americana. Following her are Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven nominations. Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter earned six nominations apiece.

The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
