Seville, Nov. 17 (AGCNewsNet) – Olympic and World Cross Country champion Beatrice Chebet continued her dominant form in 2024 by clinching victory at the Cross Internacional de Italica in Seville, Spain, on Sunday.
Chebet led the race from start to finish, crossing the line in 23:32. Kazakhstan’s Daisy Jepkemei secured second place with a time of 23:59, while Uganda’s Charity Cherop claimed the third spot, clocking 24:35.
Diana Chepkemoi narrowly missed a podium finish, coming in fourth just 0.03 seconds behind Cherop with a time of 24:38.
Chebet, 24, has enjoyed an unbeaten season this year. The 2022 Commonwealth Games 5000m champion successfully defended her world cross-country title in Belgrade in March and set a personal best of 28:54.14 in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon.
Her career highlight came at the Paris Olympics, where she secured double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m events, becoming only the third woman in history to achieve this feat at the same Games. Chebet also wrapped up the track season with a victory at the Brussels Diamond League in September, clinching the Diamond League Trophy in the women’s 5000m.
Elsewhere, Kenyan runners dominated the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 10km race. Loice Chemnung won the women’s event in a personal best of 30:25, followed by Janeth Chepngetich (30:56) and Lilian Kasait (31:12), who finished second and third respectively.
In the men’s race, Samwel Mailu of Kenya emerged victorious with a time of 28:00, narrowly beating compatriot Vincent Langat (28:01). Ethiopia’s Tadese Gebresilase completed the podium with a time of 28:12.
